Netscape Navigation Settings

 

  • Click the "Edit" menu.
  • Choose "Preferences."

Hint: The preferences window always opens to the navigator category on the left as pictured below. This is where you set the home page. You also clear the history in this window

 

Mail Server Configuration:

  • Click the plus sign (+) sign to the left of "Mail & Newsgroups."
  • Select "identity."
  • Enter your name in the "Your name" box.

Hint: This is what people will see as the "Sender" when you send e-mail. This does not have to match your e-mail username to work.

  • Input the e-mail address.

You can leave the other boxes empty.

  • Select "Mail Servers."
  • Set the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" as mail.yourispname.com
  • Set the"Outgoing mail server user name" as the first part of your e-mail address.

Hint: If you are santa@northpole.com then the username would be santa and the mail server would be mail.northpole.com.)

  • Make sure that the "use SSL" option is set for "Never"
  • Click the "Add" button under "Incoming Mail Servers."
  • Set the server type to "POP3."
If you select the "POP" tab then you get an option to leave messages on our mail server. This is generally a bad idea. Most of the time you will want to leave this box unchecked.

That's it. The e-mail is setup. Be sure to click the Communicator menu and choose Messenger to check your e-mail.


Netscape Messenger:

 
You need to open Netscape Messenger to send and receive e-mail. There is a little e-mail icon at the bottom of your Netscape window that you can click.    <-- This icon has been enlarged.
You can also click the "Communicator" menu and choose "Messenger" to open that component of Netscape.
  • Click "Get Msg" to check your email.
  • Click "New Msg" to compose an email.

News Server Configuration:  
  • Click on "Edit."
  • Select "Preferences."
  • Click the plus sign + to the left of "Mail & Newsgroups."
  • Select "Newsgroup Servers."
  • Click the "Add" button
When you "add" or "edit" a news server account, you get the following window. Put in the news server address and leave it set for port 119. NEVER put a checkmark in the support SSL encryption option.

Cookies & Java:

Some websites require the use of "cookies" or Java. You can enable these capabilities by highlighting the "advanced" category in the preferences section of the edit menu.
